26/03/1474 Poland, chaos are giving way to order and unity

Warsaw (AAP) — Following the end of the devastating conflict that marked the Kingdom of Poland with blood and unrest, a breakthrough moment for the state’s unity has arrived. The Duchy of Masovia has officially announced an act of capitulation, admitting its guilt and pleading for forgiveness from both the Crown and the neighbouring duchies.

In the issued document, the Council of the Duchy of Masovia admitted to numerous violations of law and order — from aggression against its neighbours, through interference in their internal affairs, to actions endangering its own inhabitants. In words full of remorse, the representatives of Masovia, elected in free elections, emphasised their determination to change course and their desire to rebuild trust and cooperation.

The act of capitulation was submitted to the Queen of Poland, Teodora Narcyza Lubomirska, Guardian of the Nation’s Unity. In response, the monarch issued a solemn proclamation, accepting Masovia’s submission and recognising it as the return of this land under the law of the Crown.

As part of the royal decree, the lands of Wyszogród, Czersk, Rawa and P³ock were restored to the suzerainty of the Duchy of Masovia. At the same time, new boundaries between the duchies were drawn, their course defined explicitly and declared — as emphasised — eternal.

The Queen clearly stated that any attempt to violate the established order will be treated as treason against the Kingdom and met with severe punishment. At the same time, in her graciousness, Her Royal Majesty Teodora opened a path to reconciliation: anyone who has strayed may appear before the Queen, confess their guilt, swear an oath of loyalty to the Crown, and regain their good name.

In the Duchy of Masovia lively discussions are now under way concerning the new “Decree on the Restoration of Order and the Rule of Law”. According to one of its articles, the armed attack on Wolbrom on 10 October 1473 — a city lying within the borders of the Duchy of Kraków — has been definitively classified as high treason. The deliberating councillors agree that this attack was the beginning of the long series of acts that ultimately led to the complete downfall of the Duchy of Masovia.

The decisions on the possibility of reconciliation and on the new borders have been met with cautious optimism among the inhabitants of the entire kingdom. Although the memory of recent events remains vivid, many see in this the beginning of a new chapter — based on unity, responsibility and the common rebuilding of the might of the Kingdom of Poland.

Will the declared transformation prove lasting?
Will the Masovians themselves strive to maintain the peace that has been achieved?

One thing is certain: the Kingdom of Poland is entering a new phase in which treason and chaos are giving way to order and unity.
