Berry and the Empire: Clarifications

Following our article entitled “Berry Attacks the Empire”, the editorial board of KAP International has received a formal statement from Alleaume de Niraco, Duke of Berry, presenting what he describes as “factual clarifications” regarding the recent military events near Imperial territory.

In his response, the Duke firmly denies any hostile intent toward the Holy Roman Empire. According to him, the two Berrichon armies were engaged solely in logistical maneuvers to seek reinforcements, arms, and provisions in preparation for a campaign against ONE, in Portugal. He insists that no order was given to attack any Imperial province, no declaration of war was issued against Savoy, and no attempt was made to seize any city, fortress, or strategic place within Imperial lands.

The Duke further claims that his forces were intercepted and attacked at night without prior ultimatum or summons, characterising the engagement as an ambush rather than a defensive measure. He accuses Imperial authorities of transforming a logistical redeployment into a narrative of aggression and of constructing a political interpretation to frame Berry’s anti-ONE campaign as an attack on the Empire.

This constitutes the official position of the Duchy of Berry.

However, during the night of 17–18 February, clashes were reported in Dole, capital of Franch-Comté. According to this proclamation issued by the Duke of Savoy, Landry Baccard di Leostilla, the army known as “Barback Back”, associated with the criminal organisation Clair-Obscur and allegedly acting under Berry’s banner, launched an attack against the army stationed in front of the city, defending the Grand-Place and what looked like a statue of Emperor Atum.

Savoyard authorities state that their forces prevented an enemy incursion into Imperial territory and describe the event as an attempted assault against the Holy Roman Empire. They further emphasize that no formal request for passage through Imperial lands had been submitted by the Duchy of Berry.

Of particular concern are the now two confirmed attempts of the Clair-Obscur to enter Imperial Territory, under the idea of going to fight ONE. Both times they have been repulsed by the Imperial armies. The Empire has made a clear statement that these assaults are not accepted and all measures will be taken to neutralise the threat.
